NEW MUSEUM 1:50
Fall 2012 | Cornell University
Professor Mark Cruvellier | TA Chi-Chi Lin
Collaboration with Peter Feng
For my structural systems class, Peter and I constructed a 1:50 scale structural model of SANAA's New Museum of Contemporary Art. Over 10 weeks, we researched and constructed a scaled model emphasizing the steel superstructure and mat foundation. With resources provided by Guy Nordenson Associates, we manufactured our own I-beams and foundation to recreate the building's distinct structural ingenuity and visual lightness. To emphasize the Bowery's heritage, we purchased a pair of antique Civil War-era cabinet doors to represent the site. The result is a four-feet x-ray of the building's intricate skeleton.
