What is Bao Donuts?
Bao Donuts is an Asian fusion doughnut truck in Ithaca, New York. The food truck serves specialty Bao Donuts and doubles as a traveling event space and social hub. The business concept has two parts: 1) the Bao Donut and the 2) Bao Donut Truck.
The Donut
The Bao Donut combines American-style ring and jelly donuts with Chinese-style buns. By offering savory, bun-inspired fillings in a sweet golden exterior, Bao Donuts provides customers with a unique culinary experience. They are craveable gourmet snacks in a convenient, no-mess package. Bao Donuts are all-in-one food items that can be served at all times of the day, as appetizers, grab-and-go meals, or niche desserts. The food truck menu will offer a curated assortment of flavors and doughnut types, including sweet ring donuts and savory filled donuts.
The Truck
The Bao Donut Truck is an mobile bakery and traveling theater. More than just a food truck with a window counter, the Bao Donut truck redefines the food truck platform as a true bakery-on-wheels. Equipped with a canopy, fold-out counters and deployable chairs, the Bao Donut truck creates an engaging storefront and street presence. For special events and catering, the second facade doubles as a projection screen, allowing for film screenings and impromptu performances to take place.
The core business strategy is to sell one flexible, special food item in an exciting retail package. Bao Donuts will generate revenue through two principal activities: selling donuts and catering special events. The food truck drives directly to hotspot locations, allowing the business to make and serve Bao Donuts throughout the day. Sales are maximized by matching the time cycle of different, doughnut-craving demographics around the area. On weekends, catering and event hosting with local institutions will generate additional revenue and boost marketing. High-quality, locally source coffee will be offered alongside Bao Donuts and sponsored events.
