ARCH WALL
Spring 2014 | Rome, Italy | Cornell University
Professor Lily Chi & Alberto Iacovoni
Collaboration with Anna Walling and Laura Davidson
Arch Wall is a fabrication lab and office scheme in Trastevere. Sited at a large surface parking lot between a medeival wall and a parking garage, the project proposed a new open space with the fablab as a liner building on the southern edge. The arch wall facade, like a cabinet of curiosities, showcases the unique products made in the lab. The proposal is an urban node that activates the activities around the parking site, providing much needed green space in an area divided by the wall. The project reconnects the industrial neighborhoods to the south with the residential neighborhoods north of the wall. Via steel walkway interventions, the medieval wall becomes an aerial high line, encouraging circulation across the neighborhood.
