COURTYARD HOUSING +
Fall 2013 | Boston, MA | Cornell University
Professor Inaqui Carnicero
Courtyard Housing + is a proposal for a mixed-use residence in the North End neighborhood of Boston. Currently a parking lot, the Sergeant's Wharf site sits at the end of a historic axis, connecting Old North Church to the waterfront. Inspired by waterfront facades and warehouses, I decided a habitable bridge with sequence of manifold courtyards. A series of shifted rings generate a cascade of terraces and covered plazas, creating diverse public spaces. The top ring, a program loop, cantilevers over commercial street and hosts leisurely programs, such as a swimming pool, library, and gym.
